A milestone in my t'ai chi studies
Well, finally here. Never thought i would get to the point where I had learnt all the forms of a style of t’ai chi. When I was fourteen or so learning Cheng Man Chings short form in Worcester the long form seemed some long way off. Here I am and I have learnt the wu dang long form, sabre form, sword form, spear form and the 2 nei gong sets. I need significant practice in all of them but I have been shown and have performed each now.
The art is indeed quite broad so I am certainly still student and not master. Still the milestone sticks out for me. I haven’t been going to classes per se but spending time with my Teacher instead. He’s off to China to live shortly so now I must decide how to continue my studies. In learning the nei gong of late my practice of the hand, sabre and sword forms has suffered – practicing these in my house isn’t practical though. I will have to find a space where its ok to wave around wooden weapons and generally look a little odd.
All good fun though…

hehe, gonna post sometime about next steps t’ai chi/martial arts wise.
Been asking myself if I am a martial artist and what my goals are. I’ve been doing the forms for interest and to condition myself. Been doing applications here and there and swinging swords and spears at people is fun along with the unarmed stuff.
If I want to do ‘martial arts’ rather than just calisthenics then I need to hit classes more and get into san shou and fighting exercises. See how my time and stuff suit.
