should be good – though i decided to do a 5.30am train rather than head down tonight and fork out for a room someplace.

And lo, at the 50th pronouncement it was so

A friend of mine pointed out that part of our role appeared to be saying the same thing to different groups of people until the message sticks. I note that before this observation I would get quite stressed apparently wasting my time repeating myself. I’ve now arrived at an acceptance that my role is to communicate messages (techy stuff) at varying degrees of depth, accuracy and from different view-points to different groups of people – or the same people when their thinking has moved on. This has reduced my stress levels and probably helped me communicate better.

I must admit given this I don’t know how long it takes to put a message across – i.e. how much effort is required to create and sustain a shift in thinking. I wonder if there are models of this around – I guess I’m thinking a model of key stakeholders, interested parties and influencers against shift in thinking and acceptance over time.

I note it here for posterity and so that, in 10 years when I’m still delivering messages repeatedly I remember a time when I didn’t do that.

leaning tower of computer games

Occasionally I buy a game. Lately I’ve been playing bioshock in my spare minutes but still have company of heroes, zelda, mercury and a number of other games to play that I’ve bought. If I were to pile games I have on my ‘not finished’ yet list there’d be a real risk of a very heavy pile falling my way.

I like games, enjoy playing them and view them as a piece of entertainment akin to a movie telling a story that you interact with. Guess I’ll finish them at retirement or need to slow down purchases.

Bioshock is looking to be a nice game by the way. I started out on hard, gone to medium and have to say I’m not good at the game – but it is fun. good style and story to it. As I say – an interactive story telling style of entertainment.

Oh, and sometimes still fancy a potter around in WOW although the days of hours spent raiding seem far behind me.

pets help me adjust to impending fatherhood

Michael (bedroom cat) seems intent on making sure I get woken roughly every four hours meanwhile last night teddy (rabbit) had a “moment”. Not sure what happened but it possibly involved pumpkin (outdoor cat), lots of rugs / carpets in disarray, blanket missing from top of rabbit cage, plenty of noise and teddy hiding behind the sofa much to Macy’s surprise (living room cat). awesome.

mice trash hut!

the round thing at the front here used to be of a hut, the grass in the foreground used to be the roof. Clearly the mice had other ideas ;)

You can also make out their buried castle and one of the wheels - no mice tho...

Opening my head - again?

written by scribefirecraig on August 10th, 2007 @ 01:10 PM. edit (admin only)

This post: Craigs Blog - Opening my head has had two comments recently, despite being from October 2003. The whole chi gung and exploring chi and such-like kind of went on a back burner when I got into the wudang tai chi which broadly ignores this side of the tradition. It went further onto the back burner with the advent of me playing WoW and such like.

It's something I've spent some time thinking about lately based on looking at yoga and the apparent absence of chi-gung teachers in my home town. So couple of things - reading this again made me dig the book out and also I'm surprised folks found the reference if i'm honest - linked here so you can have a look.
Seems like if you search for "nei kung blog" you get a link to the above blog entry - seems folks don't blog on it much.

Pregnant!

written by CraigBeattie on August 2nd, 2007 @ 05:17 PM. edit (admin only)

Sammy and I are now expecting our first baby. We just had our 12 week scan on Tuesday and now we’re actually 13 weeks through. Sammy’s really enjoying it I think, although not the nausea and stuff. I’ll post up the pictures of the scans here shortly – meanwhile they are available on my facebook picture albums

Oddly I found out about the pregnancy some little time after deciding to no longer raid in world of warcraft but the timing is interesting, particularly as I’ve had a shift mentally where it feels less important/appealing to me. Most odd experience I must say.

Still, it’s awesome. Absolutely chuffed – will get piccies up soon.
